A letter from the candidate
Friends, Constituents, Neighbors, and Supporters,
I’m excited to let you know that I have decided to run for State Board of Education — the District’s school board. Earlier today, I signed a Statement of Candidacy with the DC Board of Elections and Ethics and will be on the ballot for Ward 2 on November 6!
It’s a challenging time for education in the District. Parents are frustrated and do not fully understand how to build and support strong schools or access the resources available through the Superintendent or Chancellor’s offices. A main goal of mine will be to work with parents and the community at large to improve our neighborhood schools in Ward 2 and to ensure that parents have confidence in the ability of our public schools to provide their children a high-quality education. I will also focus on reducing attrition when students move to middle and high schools by ensuring those public schools provide continued rigorous curriculum that give students the life skills necessary to move into the global workforce.
I have been honored to serve the District as a Neighborhood Commissioner for the past four years, and am eager to take this next step in public service to represent all of Ward 2 on the State Board of Education. But I won’t be able to win and serve as an energetic and effective Board Member without your help getting there. I’ll need volunteers, donors, and moral supporters throughout this adventure, and I’ll be reaching out to each of you over the next several months to call upon your individual talents and resources to ensure a victory in November.

Thank you for your past support of my endeavors, and I look forward to serving Ward 2 on the State Board of Education in January 2013!
With my warmest regards,
Jack
